Please keep on reading below to know what these products are.

The Best Waterproof Sunscreens

Vanicream Sunscreen SPF 50+

Here’s a high-SPF sunscreen by Vanicream which is definitely amazing! It is perfect for anyone who is struggling to add more protection to their photosensitive skin. This sunscreen delivers broad-spectrum protection by using a combination of titanium dioxide (5%) and zinc oxide (7%) as its active ingredient. It also has the most sought-after water resistant rating of up to 80 minutes.

In addition to that, it comes in a formula that is non-comedogenic which you won’t likely find in most waterproof sunscreens since they normally have a heavier formula. What’s even great is that this sunscreen has been formulated to be gentle enough for those with sensitive skin type; in fact, those users who say their skin quickly react to any skin products they apply on their skin said that they have used this sunscreen without concern, thanks to its antioxidant-packed formula.

This is also the least expensive product in this list. So if you are searching for the perfect waterproof sunscreen particularly made for sensitive skin, then I can say this product is the best one for you.

  • It is an affordable product
  • It is non-comedogenic
  • It has high SPF rating
  • It has been specially formulated for those with sensitive skin

  • It uses a low concentration of zinc oxide and titanium oxide as its active ingredients

BADGER Sport Sunscreen SPF 35

When it comes to sunscreen, there’s no doubt that BADGER is a brand that has built a good reputation. It has been known for delivering high-quality products that are using wholesome ingredients.

This physical sunscreen is using a particularly highly concentrated zinc oxide (22.5%) to provide broad-spectrum protection. But what made me impressed is that this sunscreen is only using five ingredients that are all certified to be 98% organic and 100% natural that it is, in fact, the only product on this list with the simplest formula.

It is composed only of sunflower vitamin E, jojoba oil, beeswax, sunflower oil and zinc oxide, which makes this sunscreen best suitable for those with sensitive skin. We can be confident that this will not cause any skin irritation, unless if you have issues with any of these five natural ingredients. It is also a fragrance-free sunscreen, though it has this noticeable scent that smells like oatmeal; this is because the product contains sunflower oil which is antioxidant-rich but this will not cause any issues at all.

Anyway, this sunscreen is also water-resistant that will last up to 80 minutes, this is the maximum guarantee users can get making it perfect for those who seriously workout outdoors or plans to swim on a hot summer day. And if you are a beach lover, you will be happy to know that its natural ingredients are non-nano, biodegradable and coral reefs-safe, so it will not be harmful to the environment.

The zinc oxides deliver amazing, well-balanced UV protection. But just like most physical sunscreens, it will really take time to rub in the product properly and it also has the tendency to leave a white cast on skin. You also have to be careful after application since it has this reputation to stick on other surfaces, so make sure you won’t rub it against anything. It also has this greasy feeling but it is hard to come off, so it is highly recommended for swimmers who want great sun protection.

  • It uses a highly concentrated active ingredient
  • It has a simple formula that is gentle enough for those with sensitive skin
  • It has a water resistance that lasts up to 80 minutes

  • It has a thick formula that tends to leave a white cast

All Terrain AquaSport SPF 30

This physical sunscreen with SPF 30 delivers broad-spectrum protection by using zinc oxide (16%) as its active ingredient. It has a water-resistant formula that lasts for up to 80 minutes.

This sunscreen has actually been designed for everyone who enjoys the outdoors so the brand made it sure that the sunscreen will not be greasy or slippery on the skin. This only means that you can reapply the product whenever you need to even if you are rock climbing who can’t simply afford to get your hands to slip just because you are using a greasy sunscreen.

However, the only downside of this non-greasy sunscreen is that it comes out with a quite thick formula which can be a little difficult to spread in your skin and needs extra effort to rub in well.  However, this is a disadvantage that you can easily ignore especially if you seriously take into consideration the quality of protection you will be able to get with this sunscreen, especially that it is using a highly concentrated zinc oxide.

  • It is moderately priced
  • It comes in a large bottle
  • It is using a highly concentrated active ingredient

  • It comes in a thick formula

Goddess Garden Sport Natural Sunscreen SPF 30

You will definitely feel good purchasing from Goddess Garden. This exclusively woman-owned business does not only produce excellent products but also make sure that they promote more conscious business practices.

For instance, this natural sunscreen is made from organic ingredients stored in a recycled bottle. They are strong supporters of sustainable business practices and is giving back to the community through the support they extend to organic farmers, school and so much more.

This specific sunscreen delivers broad spectrum and physical protection of SPF 30 by using a combination of titanium dioxide (6.4%) and zinc oxide (6%). It has also been rated to be water resistant that lasts for up to 80 minutes. This means you will be able to enjoy so much sun and fun without having to worry; just make sure that you frequently reapply.

However, the formula is a little thick so make sure to be a little patient when spreading the product evenly across your skin. But since the thickness of the product doesn’t come from its super high concentration of zinc oxide, this means that it will not leave you with a white cast.

  • It is an affordable product
  • It comes from a company with a good reputation

  • It has a thick formula
  • It uses a low concentration of zinc oxide

Babo Botanicals Clear Zinc Sport Stick SPF 30

If you are looking for a sunscreen that is portable and easy to use, then this sports stick sunscreen has got you covered.

Though this sunscreen is packed in a teeny tiny package, it might just be the best waterproof sun protection for your face as well as other delicate areas. It can deliver broad spectrum and physical protection of SPF 30 by using a highly concentrated zinc oxide (15%).

Though it uses clear zinc, there’s nothing you should be concerned about, unlike most clear zinc choices from other brands. Don’t worry, this sunscreen does not use nanoparticles on its formula, they use micronized zinc which is much bigger than nanoparticles to minimize the whitening effect of the mineral active ingredient. But just keep in mind that since it uses natural ingredients, “clear” will never be as perfect as it should be.

Anyway, this sunscreen contains shea butter so unlike most stick applications, this is very smooth to apply.  It does not make your skin greasy at all too and it does not feel heavy to the skin.

  • It comes in a very convenient stick package
  • It has a high concentration of zinc oxide
  • It has a high concentration of zinc oxide

  • It is a smaller package size for its price, so it is more expensive for the amount you are getting

What You Should Know About Waterproof Sunscreen

Several years ago, a lot of sunscreens placed the word “waterproof” on its label which simply implies that you can go swimming without worrying about reapplying the product. However, this has changed during the summer of 2012. The terms “waterproof”, “sweat-proof” and “sunblock” claims are no longer allowed by the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the one responsible in regulating the sunscreen industry. They believe that these words are only overstating the efficiency of the product.

Sunscreens labeled as water-resistant served as the replacement to those labeled as waterproof. The FDA only allows the product’s claims as “40 minutes of water resistance” or “80 minutes of water resistance” to be used on sunscreens being sold in the USA. This rating indicates how long the sunscreen will stay effective while you are excessively sweating during a workout or during outdoor activities or while you are swimming. This means that after 40 or 80 minutes of being in the water, you need to reapply the product. Sunscreens that have 80 minutes of water resistance are said to be “very water-resistance”.

Now, how to use waterproof sunscreen? I know you might get confused since there’s this popular advice that says you need to reapply the sunscreen every 2 hours. But you should know that this guideline is only meant for dry use. For instance, you have freshly applied your sunscreen and you will be going outside at noon. Now since it is highly recommended that you reapply every 2 hours, it is believed that you are doing well until its 2 PM. On the other hand, if you will be swimming and is using a sunscreen with 40 minutes water resistance, you need to reapply the sunscreen as early as 12:40 PM in order to stay fully protected against the sun, even though it hasn’t yet been 2 hours.

Anyway, water-resistant sunscreens are required to qualify independent tests to prove they are capable to retain their stated SPF while the user is heavily sweating or swimming. This test will be conducted by an independent laboratory and is done by applying the sunscreen to a human’s arm, then the subject will submerge his arm in the Jacuzzi. The SPF will be measured through usual testing procedures.

If the result shows that the sunscreen still provides the SPF protection it claims on its label after the subject has submerged into the hot bubbling water, then the sunscreen can make its claim for water resistance.

Moreover, the terms waterproof sunblock, as well as sweatproof sunblock, are no longer accepted by the FDA since there’s no sun protection product that is totally water-proof or even sweat-proof. There is also no product that can fully block the sun. These terms are only misleading its users and are only promising a much higher level of protection compared to what they can really offer.
